Tuesday was the first day of school. It has definately been a busy week here. Today was field day and an early release. After his first week, we decided we should probably keep Nathaniel home one more year. He was very young for 1st grade (won't be 6 until the middle of November) and we decided he needed to mature a little more:). We did find out though that he LOVES recess! Ellie is doing very well in third grade, but has actually asked to go to bed early this week! We are looking forward to our first full week of school next week. Oh! By the way, Shane did get the washing machine fixed today!!!!! It has been out of comission since the 22nd of August!

Busy Month
It has been a very busy August for Mom around here. On August 7th someone managed to catch a really bad cold and by August 8th we all had it (except Daddy because he was in the backcountry). In addition to getting sick on the 8th, Ellie managaed to fracture her left foot. She is hoping to be freed from her boot tomorrow:). By the 9th, Nathaniel had a double ear infection and on the 11th Sammy had a double ear infection and bronchitis. We were so thankful to have the Olympics as a distraction:)

Another big change is that starting September 2nd, I (Sarah) will start teaching 6th grade at a private Classical Christian school (Petra Academy) and Ellie and Nathaniel will be enrolled. Shane is going to stay home with Abbey and Sam and manage all the "off-season" responsibilites associated with the pack station. It is a HUGE transition we have been preparing for all summer. Our 3 weeks of ick here at home didn't help with that much. I start teacher training tomorrow and am soooo thankful that Shane's Mom is here to help with the kids this week. Shane is on his last pack trip and will only have a few day rides in September.

Sammy in the Ball Pit
I decided the original ball pit was taking up too much room in the playroom and all Sammy did was play with the balls, not IN them. So, I put all the balls in a tub so Sammy could still play with them. Well, yesterday Sammy crawled into the tub and has enjoyed playing in the tub way more than the original setup!

Evacuating the Mirror Plateau
Well, Shane experienced something new this week. He was evacuated out of the backcountry because of the Lehardy fire in the park. His trip was cut short by 2 days and it was interesting coordinating vehicles to get him home with the road closure. Belows is a video he took of the fire while he was riding out on Thursday.
